Optical measurement of gases, atoms, and molecules such as NOx (nitrogen oxide) and SOx (sulfur oxide) having absorption
characteristics in the mid-infrared spectral range from 3 μm to 10 μm is the focus of a lot of recent attention. Many equipment
manufacturers are now designing products that focus on this mid-infrared spectral region. To meet the needs of these
manufacturers, Hamamatsu Photonics is developing and producing in-house the light-sensing and light-emitting devices
needed for making mid-infrared measurements. Hamamatsu Photonics offers these light-sensing and light-emitting devices
in sets for particular applications. There are very few manufacturers in the world that can produce such devices. We talked
to members in charge of developing those devices to ask about the background sales and engineering strategies.
