  • What is the Photonics Innovation Awards?

    The Photonics Innovation Awards is a competition in which various proposals are submitted using photonics technology to solve real-world challenges. Winners receive a €10,000 prize and a year of promotional support, and all participants can benefit from Hamamatsu’s Pilot Line service.


  • Who can participate?

    We welcome submissions from end-users, existing Hamamatsu customers, small companies, start-ups, and OEMs.


  • What kind of projects are eligible?

    Projects that address real-world challenges using photonics technology. These can be new ideas or the further development of existing projects.


  • What is the Hamamatsu Pilot Line service?

    The Pilot Line service is a one-stop-shop solution that helps innovators streamline product development. It offers feasibility consulting, custom integration strategies, and risk mitigation to bring an idea to market. Read more on the topic here.


  • How do I know which products to use?

    Hamamatsu Photonics will support and guide you. Once you register, we will speak with you directly to assess which product fits best your needs.


  • What is needed to participate in the competition?

    New projects or ones in development are accepted for the challenge. They must be linked to photonics technology. Prototypes are not mandatory. However, we offer a complimentary service to assist you throughout the process.


  • Who judges the participants?

    The participant projects will be judged by a mix of Hamamatsu and industry leaders.


  • How are winners selected?

    Winners are selected based on innovation, relevance, feasibility, material quality, and market potential. Up to three winners may be chosen, each receiving a €10,000 prize and a year of promotional support.


  • When is the submission deadline?

    Applications must be submitted by May 8, 2025.


  • What happens if I win?

    Once contacted, winners will be announced and celebrated at the LASER World of PHOTONICS 2025 event, with travel and accommodation covered by Hamamatsu Photonics. Additionally, you will receive promotional support to help bring your project to a broader audience.
