HAMAMATSU PHOTONICS
  • Open new horizons in Drug Screening for 2D & 3D Cell Models

For the first time ever, Hamamatsu Photonics will host a Drug Discovery Workshop, happening at NMI Natural and Medical Sciences Institute at the University of Tübingen, Germany, in July 2025.

Building on the success of our FDSS-Users meetings, this event will broaden its scope to cover advancements in drug discovery applications and incorporate several key user products, including the FDSS®µCell, FDSS®-GX, and the new CYTOQUBE®.

Expect live demos, poster sessions, and scientific presentations from users over two half days of hands-on discovery and networking.

  • Key information

  • Transportation: A bus is organized from the workshop location to the recommended hotels at the end of the first day and on the morning of the 4th of July.

  • Who is it for?

This workshop welcomes all FDSS users and anyone interested in fluorescence and luminescence kinetic plate readers, drug discovery, safety toxicology, or disease modeling. Whether your work focuses on therapeutic areas such as oncology, immunology, or other fields, you’ll find opportunities to connect with others in these spaces.

Virtual attendance options are available for those unable to join in person.

  • About the workshop

Every two years, Hamamatsu Photonics hosts a Europe-based meeting for users of the Functional Drug Screening System (FDSS®). Past gatherings have featured insights from product experts and researchers tackling challenges across drug discovery, safety toxicology, and disease modeling, creating a collaborative space for sharing, learning, and advancing the FDSS community’s capabilities.

In response to evolving needs, Hamamatsu has developed the CYTOQUBE®, a next-generation light-sheet microplate cytometer tailored for 2D and 3D cell cultures, including spheroids and organoids. This innovative imaging system delivers 3D fluorescence images of multiple cellular structures across varied sizes and morphologies, using a single focus-free scan for the entire plate.

This new edition—and more to come—has inspired Hamamatsu to expand the event to cover a broader range of topics that we know will interest and benefit our users!

  • Thierry Calmels

Chairman, Thierry Calmels, Bioprojet Biotech, Paris, France

"The conferences given are chosen to present different fields of expertise and enable us to maintain our technological watch on current hot topics. These meetings encourage exchanges and knowledge-sharing between users, all in a relaxed atmosphere. It's a great opportunity to build up a network of contacts with top-quality researchers from a wide range of backgrounds, including academia, bio-tech and pharmaceutical companies."

  • Dr. Geert Bultynck

Chairman, Dr. Geert Bultynck, KU Leuven, Belgium

"It was a true pleasure to welcome the FDSS users meeting in the beautiful Old Beguinage, Leuven, Belgium. The highly attended event provided an exhilarating glimpse into the future of FDSS systems. The program further explored the current applications within academic, biotech and pharma industry-based research and developments, uniting a unique blend of key players from diverse realms in life sciences, who rarely have the opportunity to converge. The most recent scientific advances as well as forefront technological developments presented were of the highest level rivaling leading conferences in the field. The atmosphere at the meeting was marked by convivial and collegial interactions with openly shared experiences and insightful discussions. The meeting was highly interactive with active contributions from early career researchers and tech staff to the program and the discussions. Maybe the best testimony for its success  is that discussions continued despite the prospects of a local beer tour. Overall, a highly exciting event for all using or thinking to use FDSS instruments within their research!"

"I have been participating to the Hamamatsu FDSS Users Meeting for 5 years now. This meeting is one of my preferred meetings because of the quality and diversity of the science and the participants (academics, start-ups and pharmaceutical companies). The science is great and the atmosphere is friendly, which favours exchanges of ideas and technical tips."

  • Gautier Roussignol

"The FDSS Users Meeting is a very interesting meeting, with a lot of concrete applications and insights on either new application or how others are performing their own use which may also rise new ideas.

The meeting also allows room for direct interaction and the event facilitate to discuss more openly over topics."
